The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to prepare a new bill amending the bill on truth, peace and reconciliation in Sri Lana taking into consideration of inputs that were forwarded by various parties on the bill drafted by Legal Draftsman, a statement from the Cabinet Office said.
The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held on July 15 after the bill was cleared by the Attorney General department.
The joint proposal was presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Accordingly, the amended bill is to be gazetted to be tabled in Parliament. (Northeastern Monitor/ July 30/2024)
