State Minister Viyalendran's Private Secretary arrested over Rs 1.5 M bribe



Officials attached to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABoC) arrested the Secretary to State Minister S. Viyalendran in Batticaloa today over soliciting a bribe of Rs 1.5 million, the Commission said.


The raid was carried out following a complaint lodged by a businessman in Polonnaruwa who was in the process of securing a mining license from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.


Along with the Private Secretary, another individual was also taken into custody in Batticaloa over the incident as well. Both are scheduled to be produced before the Courts.  (Northeastern Monitor/ August 1/2024)
