A defamation case seeking Rs 100 million as compensation was filed at Jaffna High Court by Director of Jaffna Teaching Hospital Dr S. Sathiyamoorthi against Jaffna district MP Dr R. Archuna over recent remarks made by the Parliamentarian in recent weeks.
The hospital director claimed in his petition that the MP made defamatory statements about his past detention period after serving in Vanni during wartime period and recent incident where the MP entered the hospital premises without proper approval.
When the case was taken up for hearing yesterday (18), Additional High Court Judge A. Aanandarajah directed the MP not to make any such statements on the Director until December 30.
The Court is to make a final decision whether to extend the ban in future. On behalf of petitioner, Attorney at Law K. Guruparan appeared. (Northeastern Monitor/December 19/2024)
