Over 100 Rohingya refugees including children and women who reached Mullaithivu shore last week are currently sheltered at Keppapilavu Air Force camp after being produced before courts.

Earlier, the refugees were taken to Trincomalee for legal action and sheltered at Trincomalee Jamaliya Muslim Maha Vidyalayam. Refugees along with 12 skippers were produced before the Trincomalee Magistrate Courts. The Courts ordered them to be sheltered at Mirihana Detention Camp for foreigners.

Since the Department of Immigration and Emigration refused to grant permission to shelter all the refugees at the Mirihana detention centre, they were taken back to the Kepapilavu Air Force camp as a temporary measure. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 24/2024)
