At least Rs 12 billion (12,000 million) is required urgently to develop and rehabilitate 240 kilometers long roads and bylanes across the Northern province.
According to a statement issued by Road Development Department of Northern Province, at least 240 kilometers long roads and bylanes located in various parts of the Province need to be rehabilitated this year alone. To carry out the development work, Provincial administration requires Rs 12 billion allocation from the Central government.
According to the statement, 950 roads covering 2200.47 kilometers across the five districts required an estimated amount of Rs 47.5 billion. Out of which, 240 Kms long road to be rehabilitated urgently within this year.
The response from the Provincial government released after the criticism levelled against them when no proper answer was given when President Anura Kumara Dissanayake inquired about the financial requirement for road development works in the province at the recent District Development Committee meeting held in Jaffna last week.
