A leading Chinese scholar delivered a guest lecture on the Chinese experience in poverty eradication and economic development, focusing on how those lessons can be adopted by Sri Lanka at the University of Jaffna last Friday (May 23).
Dr He Yan, Assistant Professor, Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University, delivered the key lecture following an invitation extended by the Department of Economics.
His lecture was titled “ The Rapid Economic Development and Absolute Poverty Eradication in China: Lessons for Sri Lanka”.
During his lecture, Dr Yan said that he is honoured to be participating in the event at the university, though he visited Northern twice last year.
The Q&A that followed the lecture focused on Chinese experiences of poverty alleviation and maintaining ecological balance with rapid development. (Northeastern Monitor/May 27/2025)
