Pillayaan’s associate arrested by CID over enforced disappearances and death of ex TNA MP

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested K. Pushpakumar alias Iniyabharathi, a close confidant of former Chief Minister S. Chandrakanathan alias Pillayaan, today over enforced disappearances of youths during wartime and the killing of a former Parliamentarian of Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

He was taken into custody by a CID team that came from Colombo near Muniyakkaadu, Kovil area today.

Before breaking away from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and joining with Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal (TMVP), Iniyabharahi was overseeing the Karina faction’s activities in Thirukkovil, Batticaloa.

He later worked closely with Pillayaan as his personal Secretary following the breakaway from the Karuna group as well. 

In addition to ongoing investigations over enforced disappearances, the police have also launched investigations over his alleged involvement in the killing of late TNA MP A. Chandranehru, who was assassinated in 2005. (Northeastern Monitor/ July 6/2025)
