Muthur Magistrate Courts issued an order on Wednesday directing the Judicial Medical Officer (JMo) and Department of Archeology to submit reports on recent incident where human remains were found during the landmine clearing process in Sampur, Muthur earlier this week.
Acting Magistrate Judge H.M. Fowzan visited the site where human remains were found to conduct magisterial inquiries. He directed relevant authorities to commence excavation activities to recover the human remains and ordered the Department of Archaeology to verify whether the location was used as a cemetery in the past.
Both state authorities are instructed to file reports to Courts on July 30.
Officials from Police crime unit and Department of Government Analysts took part in the preliminary investigations.
The human remains came to light when a group of landmine clearing workers were clearing the land in Sampur last Sunday (20). Thereafter, the land mine clearing activities were put on hold following directives issued by the court. (Northeastern Monitor/ July 25/ 2025)
