Another military personnel attached to 12th Sinha regiment was taken into custody today over the death of a Tamil youth who entered a military camp in Muththaiyankaddu, Mullaithivu on August 9.
Along three military personnel who were already arrested over the incident, another Lance Copral was arrested for assaulting the youths. All four have remanded by Mullaithivu Magistrate Court today when the case was taken up for hearing.
Earlier, five youths entered the camp after a military soldier reportedly invited them to collect scrap material as the camp was in the process of being moved to a different place.
The youths who escaped from the military claimed they were assaulted by military personnel after they entered and they had to run for their lives. One of them - a 32 year old youth and father of a child was found dead two days later at Muththaiyankaddu tank. ( Northeastern Monitor / August 19/2025)
