Photojournalist K. Kumanan left Counter Terrorism Investigation Department (CTID) office in Alambil, Mullaithivu today after seven hours of questioning by police unit. He appeared around 10.00 am along with his lawyer senior lawyer N. Kandeepan as instructed and was allowed to leave in late evening.
Earlier, he was handed in a summon by police at his residence recently instructing him to appear CTID office over investigations. When the journalist filed a complaint with Human Rights Commission office over the summon, he was told that he was served with the summon based on a complaint lodged by Military Intelligence over his journalistic work.
As a photojournalist, Kumanan has been documenting struggles in post war context in Northern province, recently ongoing Chemmani mass grave excavations. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 17/2025)
