A set of old ammunition rounds were recovered during the cleaning activities carried out at the proposed Jaffna International cricket stadium in Mandaithivu yesterday, police said.
Ahead of commencing construction work, the land is being cleared by labourers since last week. The recovered ammunition in a pipe are used for T-56 assault rifles, according to police.
Kayts police was informed about the incident and following directive issued by Kayts Magistrate Court, the set of ammunition is to be recovered and handed over to Courts.
Last month, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake placed the foundation stone for the international cricket stadium to be built by Sri Lanka Cricket on 52 acre land property in the island. (Northeastern Monitor/ September 21/2025)
