Koralaipattru Pradeshiya Sabha officials today removed several name boards that were erected by Department of Archeology earlier this week saying the department failed to secure approval before putting up the boards in the region.
The name boards were setupped near regions which the department declared as archeological sites in Thikilliveta, Murukkantheevu, and Pendukalchenai in Batticalao.
On the basis that erecting name boards without the approval of relevant local body violated regulations under Pradeshiya Sabha Act of 1987 Section 15, Chair of Koralaipattru PS and other elected officials removed those name boards from the spot.
Chair of local body said Archeological Department is carrying out similar kind of arbitrary steps of setting of name boards without the approval of local bodies with hidden agenda of acquiring the lands where Tamil speaking people live in majority numbers in the Eastern province.
