Maveerar Week commenced across N&E; memorial declared open in Nallur

As annual Maveerar week commenced yesterday (November 21), preparations are underway in full swing across North and Eastern provinces to remember the fallen cadres who sacrificed their lives for Tamil cause and the war dead during three decades long civil war. 


A memorial plague consisting of over 12,000 names of fallen cadres who fought along with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)  were unveiled yesterday near Nallur, Jaffna. 


Mayor of Jaffna Municipal Council Mrs T. Mathivathani, councilors, local politicians, civil society representatives and families of war dead took part in the inauguration ceremony. The memorial is setupped infront of Thileepan memorial, near Nallur. 


Similar remembrance events to mark the commencing of the week were held at University of Jaffna, Vadamarachchi, Thellipalai, Chunnakam, Manipay areas in Jaffna. (Northeastern Monitor /November 22/2025)
