Chemmani mass grave: another remains of infant recovered

 

Excavation team engaged in recovering the human remains from the mass grave site yesterday. 

Human remains of another infant was recovered during the excavation activities carried out yesterday (May 5) at the Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna. Along with the remains, a round shaped jewel was also found by the excavation team.


For the fifth day, third stage of excavation activities were carried out under the directives issued by Jaffna Magistrate Court. 


At least five human remains were found yesterday alone including the infant one and two of them were excavated completely. Out of total  255 human remains found in the site, 243 skeletons were recovered completely so far. 


According to lawyers who were at the scene, the remains of infant was partially damaged therefore the excavation team had to adopt special measures to recover it. (Northeastern Monitor/ May 6/2026)
