Six Tamil political parties consisting of Tamil, Muslim and Upcountry political parties agreed today to form a collective outfit to voice for critical issues faced by Tamil speaking people in the country.
Following a meeting held at Renuka Hotel, Colombo, senior leaders representing six parties - Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC), Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) agreed to work together on a common platform.
M. A. Sumanthiran of ITAK, Selvam Adaikalanathan of DTNA, Rauff Hakeem of SLMC and Jeevan Thondaman of CWC participated in the meeting.
It was decided to reiterate aspirations of Tamil speaking people in the new constitution making process, exerting pressure on government to hold provincial council elections and release of civilian lands in North and East. (Northeastern Monitor/ July 13/ 2026)
