Residents of Myliddy, Palaly have been staging a protest in-front of ‘Military Officers Bungalow” demanding returning of their ancestral properties for thirteen weeks consequently.
From Valikaamam North region, thousands of acres land come under the purview of Grama Sevaka divisions of J/256, J/248, J/251 and J /255 still remain under military custody since June 1990.
Owners of the land alleged that despite seventeen years passed since the war came to an end in 2009, Tri-forces and police occupy private lands for decades after declaring it as ‘High Security Zone’.
Last Friday (July 17), protesters staged a protest in front of the military run bungalow built on private land reiterating their demand to return their lands and allow them to resettle on their own lands. (Northeastern Monitor/ July 18/ 2026)
