Mallakam Magistrate Court ordered to remand eleven individuals who tried to smuggle gold from Jaffna to Nagapattinam via ferry service across the Palk Straits.
Among the total of nineteen individuals who were taken into custody on Wednesday under the suspicion of smuggling gold, eleven were found to be possession of gold within their bodies flowing medical examination.
They were prevented from boarding into ferry service by officials of Customs.
Mallakam Magistrate ordered the eleven accused to be remanded till September 9. (Northeastern Monitor/August 29/2026)
