Tamil parties & civil society outfits agree to field a Common Presidential candidate

 Seven Tamil political parties and civil society outfits based in North and Eastern provinces entered into an agreement today to field a Common Presidential candidate in the upcoming Presidential polls. 

Attendees observed one minute silence to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for Tamil cause. 

The written agreement to work on this initiative was signed at Thanthai Selva auditorium, Jaffna today (July 22). 

Representing political parties, Selvam Adaikalanathan of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), C.V. Wigneswaran of Tamil Makkal Kootani, D. Siddarthan- of People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), N. Srikantha of Tamil Nationalist Party, Suresh Premachandran of Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), P. Iyngaranesan of Tamil Nationalist Pasumai Movement and S. Venthan representing  Democratic Cadres Party signed the agreement. 

Meanwhile, representing civil society outfits which formed the collective of “Tamil Peoples General Council” are activists T. Vasantharajah, S.C. Jothilingam, Prof K.T. Kanesalingam, R. Wigneswaran and political analysts A. Jatheendra and M. Nilanthan also placed their signature in the document.
