Shanakiyan MP raises privilege issue over report of alleged assassination attempt

Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam informed the Parliament today (July 23) of an alleged assassination attempt on his life as per a news report published in a website.  

Raising the issue under his Parliament privileges in the House today, MP Shankaiyan said he had also written to the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament regarding the news report that suggested a plot to assassinate him for the attention of the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena as well. 

 The MP said that the news report quoted a foreign intelligence agency that linked the alleged plot with a State Minister who was accused of various human rights violations in Eastern province as well. (Northeastern Monitor/July 23/2024)
