Alleged medical negligence of childbirth in Mannar hospital: Husband died by suicide

The husband of a mother who died due to alleged medical negligence at Mannar District Hospital recently passed away in Vavuniya today, police said.

Last month, his pregnant wife died after being admitted to the maternity ward of the hospital. An internal probe launched by hospital authorities found that medical negligence of staff attached to the hospital led to the death of the mother. However, the child of the victim survived.  Further investigations are currently underway over the death of the mother as well.

The victim's 26-year-old husband was admitted to the hospital yesterday after attempted suicide at his home in Vavuniya yesterday. 

Following the death of the mother, several protests were staged in front of the hospital demanding justice for the mother who died at the hospital last month. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 25/2024)
