The annual festival of the iconic Nallur Kandaswamy temple commenced today with the ceremony of hoisting the flag at 10.00 am with the participation of thousands of devotees who arrived to witness the event.
The 25-day ceremony kicked off with local devotees from various parts of the country and diaspora taking part and fulfilling their vows and special prayers to Lord Murugan in Nallur.
The flag, designed based on Senguntha tradition was brought to the temple yesterday through a chariot following poojas and special prayers. The 25-day ceremony will go till September 14.
The Jaffna Municipal Council with the support of Temple management ensured all arrangements are placed in order for the wellbeing of devotees who came to visit Lord Murugan during the festival period.
The special traffic arrangement around temple premises which resulted in the temporary closure of Jaffna- Point Pedro road came under severe criticism by some sections of devotees who reside near the temple as well. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 9/2024)
