Sports equipment handed over to Eluvaithivu Murugavel Vidayalayam

A set of sports equipment worth Rs 200,000 allocated by Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) MP S. Shritharan under budgetary allocations was handed over to the school community of J/Eluvaithivu Murugavel Vidayalayam on Monday. 

The school, located in one of the Northern islands of  Eluvaithivu is facing several challenges to provide educational services to a limited number of students on the island. Currently, 36 students are studying while only 10 students are attached to it despite the requirement for fifteen teachers for the school. 


Accessing the island with proper transport is the major issue, parents of students villagers said while pointing out that most of the teachers are visiting the island from the mainland of Jaffna and they have to walk at least two kilometres to reach the school on a daily basis along with students under tremendous difficulties. 


While thanking for the sports equipment, the School Development Committee and parents requested regional Educational authorities to provide adequate travel facilities within the island for both students and teachers. 


Presided by school principal P.R.Kayooran, representatives of local ITAK wing S. Kanakaiya, Rural Development Society Chairman Jesuthasan Jeyastan Stanislas took part in the ceremony along with teachers and students. (Northeastern Monitor August 14/2024)
