A commemorative event was held today to remember victims including 53 school students and four workers who were killed eighteen years ago in an aerial attack by the Air Force in Chencholai premises in Vallipunam, Idaikaddu of Mullaithivu.
Relatives of the victims, civil society activists, former Councilor of Northern Provincial Council (NPC) T. Raviharan, former member of Puthukudiyiruppu Pradeshiya Sabha S. Kuganesan and locals took part in the collective commemorative event to remember their loved ones.
On August 14, 2006, 53 female students along with four workers at Chencholai Children's Home were killed in the aerial attack. However, then government refuted those media reports saying that a terrorist training venue was targeted. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 14/2024)
