Newly elected President sworn in; assures to work for all

Newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is addressing the nation after taking oaths today at the Presidential Secretariat. 

President -elect Anura Kumara Disaanayake took oaths as Sri Lanka’s ninth Executive President before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya today at the Presidential Secretariat.

Newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in an address to the nation soon after taking oaths reinforced his commitment to democracy. 

He praised the commitment of all political leaders including outgoing President Ranil Wickremesinghe for ensuring a smooth transfer of power.

“I am not a magician. I am a citizen of this country and there are things that I know and things I don’t know. I hope to gather the experience of others and build this country. I expect the support of everyone to overcome the challenges faced by the  country. 

“We cannot work in isolation as a country and will maintain  our international relations.”
