NPP's Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared as winner at Presidential Elections

Presidential candidate of National Peoples’ Power Anura Kumara Dissanayake was declared as the winner of the 9th Presidential elections at the Election Commission this evening. 


The announcement came soon after the final results were declared. Accordingly, Mr Dissanayake received 5,740,179 votes (42.31 per cent) while SJB candidate Sajith Premadasa obtained 4,530,902 votes (32.76 per cent). Independent candidate Ranil Wickremsinghe received 2,299,767 (17.2 per cent).


Since any of the candidates failed to secure fifty per cent of the votes, the second preference count was called. Mr Dissanayake received 105,264 votes while Mr Premamdasa received 167,867 votes.
