As Tamil ethnic conflict is yet to be resolved even after fifteen years passed since end of the war, Jaffna district MP C. V. Wigneswaran urged Tamil people to vote for Tamil Common Candidate P. Ariyanenthiran to express Tamil peoples' unity as a collective symbol in the upcoming polls.
Addressing the media today in Colombo at Hotel Western, the former Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council stressed that the Central government is actively pursuing its agenda to colonize areas where Tamil people lived for generations. “This government has taken steps to acquire 431 acres land in Kuchchaveli, Trinco to disconnect to continuity of Tamil peoples' survival between North and Eastern provinces,”
Wigneswaran MP who was engaged in talks with President Ranil Wickramasinghe in the recent past also expressed his disappointment that the current government also pursued the agenda carried out by the previous government to change local demographics.
"During the talks we had with President Wickramasinghe, he had assured us to look into the powers under 13th amendment that were taken over by the government. An Expert Committee to which we also nominated persons never materialized even after one year passed,” the MP said. (Northeastern Monitor/ September 18/2024)
