ITAK MP Charles Nirmalanathan extends support to Ranil

Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) Parliamentarian and Leader of party’s Mannar District Wing Charles Nirmalanathan extended support to President Ranil Wickramasinghe today for the upcoming Presidential elections. 

President Wickramasinghe met with ITAK MP at his residence in Mannar yesterday. Along with Mr Nirmalanathan, a group of his supporters also took part in the meeting and facilitated President Wickramasinghe who was in the district to address election rallies.  

During the meeting, the ITAK MP assured the President that he is committed to work towards the President's victory.  

The ITAK MP’s latest decision to extend support to President Wickramasinghe came in the wake of recent developments within the party in which MPs divided on supporting Tamil Common Candidate despite party's decision to support SJB candidate Saith Premadasa in the upcoming polls. 

Leader of ITAK MP S. Shritharan and senior leader Mavai Senathirajah earlier expressed their support for Tamil Common Candidate P. Ariyanenthiran who was nominated by other Tamil political parties and civil society groups. (Northeastern Monitor/September 17/2024)
