A Chinese delegation led by China's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong handed over a livelihood grant worth Rs 12 million for Northern people to Governor N. Vethanayahan at the Governor's Secretariat yesterday.
Ambassador Zhenhong assured the Northern Governor that China is ready to assist the North in its development initiatives while stressing that China is ready to share its own experience of poverty alleviation of 800 million people in China as well.
Appreciating China's continuous support to the province, the Governor indicated that Northern farmers find it difficult to export their agrarian products after value addition and the same difficulties are faced by the fisherfolk community as well.
The visit by the Chinese delegation comes after the electoral victory of the National Peoples' Power (NPP) government and it is currently visiting various regions across the Northern province
