Sri Lanka Army commenced the process of vacating a military camp built on private land in Katkovalam, Point Pedro after decades of occupation this week.

The three-acre extent private land, owned by three brothers was under occupation since the 1995 wartime period and the military put up permanent structures within the premises during that period.

Following the directive issued by the Army Headquarters to vacate the private property within 14 days, the Army commenced the process of moving its resources to a nearby Base camp.

Earlier, locals and land owners opposed to Army's attempts to acquire land through legal measures through protests and sit-in protests in front of the Army camp. (Northeastern Monitor/ Nov 21/2024)
