A tense situation was reported at Mannar District Hospital a while ago over the death of a pregnant mother and her child as relatives of the victim alleged medical negligence over the death.
The victim, a 28-year-old woman from Paddithoddam was admitted to the labour ward of the hospital and died during the labour procedure earlier today.
The relatives who gathered at the hospital alleged medical negligence by staff attached to the hospital and refused to accept the bodies. They also alleged that they were not allowed to see the mother and child for a long time since they were admitted to labour.
Locals who gathered at the hospital administration alleged that hospital staff failed to ensure medical facilities are provided to the patient on time as they turned a blind eye despite several discrepancies were reported to the authorities in past.
This is the third death of a suspected medical negligence reported from the hospital. (Northeastern Monitor/Nov 19/2024)
