Signature campaign launched demanding release of all Tamil political prisoners

Students attached to the University of Jaffna launched a signature campaign in front of the university today demanding authorities to release all Tamil political prisoners detained under Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Pointing out that the country's civil war came to an end fifteen years ago, the students stressed that the notorious PTA is very much still in use as recent arrests were made under the law for engaging in Maveerar commemorative events last November. 

Students Union (Arts Faculty) of the university urged the government to release all Tamil political prisoners who are still languishing in jails over several years. (Northeastern Monitor/January 6/2025)
