Chemmani mass grave: 56 skeletons excavated so far with three more unearthed today

 

A set of human remains identified today (8) during the excavation process. 


With three more human skeletons identified today, the total number of human skeletons excvated from Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna reached 56, according to officials. 


Among them, 50 human remains were recovered and currently placed under judicial custody of Jaffna Magistrate Courts. 


The excavation team led by Prof Raj Somadeva also commenced excavation activities on a fresh site adjacent to the previous where over 45 💀 were recovered. 


The excavation activities are being carried out for the thirteenth day consequently following the directive issued by Jaffna Magistrate Court.


Lawyers who were at the scene as part of observation team said most of the bodies are buried nearly one to two feet underneath randomly. (Northeastern Monitor/July 8/ 2025)
