Families of victims who were killed on July 9,1995 at St Peter's Church, Navaly in Jaffna marked the 30th anniversary of their loved ones with collective prayers yesterday (9) at the church premises.
On July 9, 1995- exactly thirty years ago Sri Lankan Air Force fighter planes dropped at least nine bombs on civilian areas including the church and nearby Sri Kathirkama Murugan temple where internally displaced people were residing.
At the church, 65 persons including women and children were among the dead leaving over 150 injured.
At least 82 persons were killed and over hundred injured at the Sri Kathirkama Murugan temple as well.
The attacks drew severe criticism on then President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga for carrying out inhuman attacks on religious places targeting civilians.
