Jaffna Magistrate Court issued a directive today to showcase the artifacts which were recovered from the ongoing excavation activities in the Chemmani mass graves publicly on August 5 in order to allow the common public to identify them and assist ongoing investigation.
Accordingly, all the artifacts recovered from Ariyalai Siththupaathi Hindu cemetery will be showcased publicly from 1.30 pm to 5 pm at the cemetery for the public. The Court order was issued by Magistrate Judge A. A. Aanatharajah.
The directive was issued based on the request forwarded by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in order to assist the ongoing inquiries over the mass graves and skeletons recovered.
By today (August 1), at least 112 human skeletons were recovered from the site among the total 122 identified human remains. Further excavation activities are scheduled to continue in coming days. (Northeastern Monitor /August 1/2025)
