Tamil nationalist parties join hands to call for an international investigation for Chemmani massgrave probe. |
Tamil nationalist political parties came together to demand international investigation into Chemmani mass graves by launching a signature campaign on August 29 across North and Eastern provinces.
Addressing a press conference today in Jaffna, six political parties Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), Samthathuva Katchchi, and Democratic Cadres Party (DCP) announced a collective decision demanding accountability for the Chemmani mass graves and urged authorities to conduct investigation into other suspected mass grave sites in the two provinces.
M.A. Sumanthiran of ITAK, Selvam Adaikalanathan of TELO, D. Siddarthan of PLOTE, Suresh Premachandran of EPRLF, M. Chandrakumar of Samththuva Katchci and T. Venthan of DCP took part in the collective press brefing.
At least 140 human skeletons were recovered so far at Chemmani excavation process led by archeologist Dr Raj Somadeva under judicial orders issued by Jaffna Magistrate Courts. The Courts was told ninety per cent of the human remains were buried without any dresses.
The third phase of excavation activities commenced today (August 25) following a 18 day break.
The signature campaign called for international oversight and impartial investigation into the mass grave urging authorities to seek international assistance for victim identification using modern technologies. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 25/ 2025)
