The hartal campaign that was scheduled to be held on August 15 condemning ongoing militarization in North and East provinces has been postponed to August 18 in view of religious festivals of Nallur Kandaswamy temple and Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu in Mannar, Secretary of Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) M.A. Sumanthiran announced today.
Earlier, ITAK called for a hartal campaign to be observed following recent incident where a 32 year old youth from Muththaiyankaddu, Mullaithivu was found dead after entering a military camp. All Tamil political parties condemned the incident where four other youths who entered the camp ran away following assaults by army personnel.
The youths said they were asked to come to the camp in order to collect scrap material. (Northeastern Monitor/ August 12/ 2025)
