Ex-Naval Intelligence Director Rtd Rear Admiral Sarath Mohotti remanded over abduction charges



Former Director of Naval Intelligence, Retired Rear Admiral Sarath Mohotti was remanded until September 24 after being produced before the Polgahawela Magistrate today over abduction and murder of a man in Pothuhera, in 2010.


Earlier, he was arrested today by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the incident. 


This is second top profile arrest among senior Navy officials following the arrest of former Commander of the Navy Nishantha Ulugetenne, who was previously arrested over the same incident. The former Commander is still in remand custody after bail application was denied by the Courts last week. 


The former Commander of Navy served as Head of Naval Intelligence Unit in 2010 during which Navy ran an illegal detention centre where abducted individuals were allegedly detained. (Northeastern Monitor/ September 18/2025)
