ITAK seeks meeting with President on Tamil national question as no steps taken since Govt took office

Letter sent by ITAK to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake seeking a meeting on Tamil National question.

Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), the main Tamil political party from North and East wrote to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake seeking a meeting with him to discuss matters related to Tamil National question while stressing that government failed to take proactive steps in this regard as it marked one year since assuming office.

The party said “it is now one year since you took office as the President of the country. In your election manifesto and several announcements you have promised to resolve this most pressing issue. However, no action seems to have been taken in respect of this matter in last one year,” the letter said.

The party wrote to President Dissanayake following a decision that was taken at recent Central Working Committee meeting to meet the President and take up the issue directly.

The party also appointed a committee comprising of President, General Secretary and eight Parliamentarians of the party to lead the talks. (Northeastern Monitor/ Sep24/2025)
