A joint operation conducted by the Navy and police resulted in the seizure of a massive haul of Kerala cannabis weighing more than 906kg in Narivilikkulam beach area of Mannar in the last two days (September 2 and 3), Navy said.
The gross street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to exceed Rs. 203 million.
The search operation was mounted by naval personnel of SLNS Pussadeva in the North Central Naval Command in coordination with the Police Special Branch, Mannar in the beach vicinity of Narivilikkulam. The search led to the recovery of 398 suspicious parcels stuffed with Kerala cannabis weighing over 906kg.
It is believed that smugglers would have abandoned the stash of Kerala cannabis, due to heightened coastal surveillance by the Navy in the area. The stock of Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Murukkan Police, Mannar for onward legal action.
