The next phase of excavation activities at Chemmani mass grave is scheduled to commence early next January after grave yards were found to be flooded due to recent monsoon rains.
A team led by Jaffna Magistrate Judge S. Leninkumar and Judicial Medical Officer Dr S. Piranavan, lawyers representing relatives of enforced disappeared persons visited the site yesterday.
Accordingly, it was decided to commence third phase of excavation activities on January 19 next year following a field visit by Magistrate Court inquiry.
So far, 239 human skeletons were recovered during the two phase excavation activities carried. (Northeastern Monitor/ November 4/ 2025)
