Cattle deaths put livestock farmers under livelihood risk in Mannar

 


Workers engaged in clearing remains of cattles died during cyclone Ditwa last week. 

Over 15,000 cattles are feared to have died during last week’s  cyclone Ditwah in  Mannar, North putting lives of thousands of livestock farmers in the district. 


As several areas in the district remain inaccessible including Kunchukulam, Divisional Secretariats of Muslai, Manthai Westamd Nanaddan where livestock farmers are left without their sole income. 


Accessing Periyamadhu, Koorai, and Seethu Vinyagapuram villages remain difficult due to flooding. Both Navy and Air Force are providing dry ration relief packages to affected families. 


In Mannar, 127,269 persons from 30569 families are affected while 22 houses were fully damaged. Some 822 houses were partially damaged. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 5/2025)
