Former Parliamentarian of Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi representing Batticalao district Sellaiyah Rajadurai passed away at the age of 98, the party said.
He passed away on Sunday (7) at a private hospital in Chennai.
Known as ‘Sollin Selvar” for his oratory skills as a political speaker, he was handpicked by late founder of the party S.J.V. Chelvanayaham and represented Batticaloa district from 1956 till 1989. He also served as first Mayor of Batticalao Municipal Council in 1967.
He resigned from the party in 1979 and decided to extend support to then government led by former President J. R. Jeyawardena. He also served as Minister of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs.
He was among the prominent faces of the party in the Batticaloa district where he was instrumental in spreading party’s federal policies in the district and near by districts through his speeches.
Recalling his decades long service to the party, ITAK expressed condolences to the family of late MP and his supporters saying ‘late Rajadurai left a remarkable legacy’ in the party’s history over the decades. Northeastern Monitor / December 9/2025)
