The railway services which were badly affected due to recent cyclone Ditwah will be recommence from January 1 onwards next year (2026), Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Kunasena said.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, the Deputy Minister also said that railway services to Thalaimannar will also commence from next February along with disrupted railway services to upcountry.
Due to the impact of cyclone, the Deputy Minister said that Railway department estimated Rs 69 billion require to repair damaged railway tracks, signal systems in near future.
The government has deployed military personnel to repair the damaged infrastructure and bridges with assistance from relevant state agencies, he said. (Northeastern Monitor / December 19/2025)
