A Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) delegation led by its President MP Kajendrakumar Ponnambalam met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin today at Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Chennai where the nationalist party reiterated that a federal constitution that recognizes Tamil Nation will be lasting solution for the Tamil National question.
Pointing out that 1987 Indo- Lanka Pact recognized that the Tamil speaking people live in majority numbers in North and East , TNPF noted that 13th Amendment that was introduced under the pact was diluted further on devolving powers to provinces under a unitary state despite Tamil people consistently gave a mandate for federal based solution.
The TNPF delegation consist of party Secretary S. Kajendran, senior lawyer K. Sugash, senior lawyer K. Kandeepan and activist I. Iynkaranesan. The meeting was organized by leader of Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Party Thol Thirumaavalavan.
The delegation also alleged that previous government which held office from 2015-2019 brought a draft news constitution in which unitary nature of the state is maintained. ‘The current government also said in Presidential manifesto that new constitution making process will be initiated based on the draft by the previous government.
“With Sri Lankan government is struggling due to economic crisis and depend on Indian assistance for its growth, it is imperative that India can play a crucial role in resolving ethnic conflict with just solution through diplomatic pressure,” TNPF said in a statement while stressing the social, lingual and cultural links with Tamil Nadu brethren which dates back to centuries.
The party also urged TN government to declare Tamil peoples’ stand as the State’s position on Tamil ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka and exert pressure to New Delhi to adopt similar approach. (Northeastern Monitor / December 18/2025)
