A delegation of Tamil nationalist parties reiterated today at meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in Colombo calling to ensure government hold much delayed Provincial Council election at earliest.
The delegation consist of MPs from Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK), Eelam People’s Revolutionary Front (EPRLF), People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) and All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) pointed out that almost over a decade passed since some of the PC expired in the country and successive governments including current NPP government is not keen to conduct polls in near future.
The meeting was held at India House, Colombo. Representing ITAK, C.V.K. Sivagnanam, M. A. Sumanthiran, MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam and MP S. Shritharan, took part among with D. Siddarathan of PLOTE, Suresh Premachandran of EPRLF, MP Selvam Adaikalanathan of TELO, and MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam of ACTC.
MP Ponnambalam stressed that PC system cannot be the lasting solution for Tamil National question but the relief for the conflict has to be a federal based one. He also reiterated that his party believes that the PC polls should be held soon. (Northeastern Monitor / December 23/2025)
