At least 3,389 war affected families urgently require state land in Mullaithivu in order to resettle them with housing scheme, District Development Committee (DDC) meeting held in Mullaithivu was told.
In Puthukkudiyiruppu alone, 1,500 families reported to be living in rented homes even after sixteen years passed since the end of civil war in 2009.
When Vanni district MP T. Raviharan raised the issue at DDC meeting held in Mullaithivu yesterday (December 24), Secretary to Divisional Secretariat informed that steps are taken to distribute state lands for landless families before next March.
For this initiatives, land kachcheri meetings are to be conducted in DS areas in the district. Several hundred families in Manthai East, Thunnukkai, Oddusuddan areas are living without proper land to resettle on their own. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 25/2025)
