A charity - run free lunch distributing outlet was declared open on Thursday (January 1) near Kilinochchi district hospital targetting the less abled locals in the war affected district and individuals those who are visiting hospital.
The outlet named Uthiravenkai Vairavar Blessed Food Garden, located on main A9 road near hospital offers lunch daily from noon 12.00 pm till 2.00 pm, feeding daily workers, less abled citizens and those who visit the hospital.
Since the inauguration, at least 200 people are served with lunch daily. Supported by diaspora based individuals from region and local volunteers, the organizers said they are trying their best to serve those who are in dire need with meals to support their livelihood.
Conceptualized by families of late Sinnaiyah Nadarasa, late Ponnaiah Ramanathan and late Mrs Kamaleshwari Ramanathan, the initiative was welcomed by both locals and diaspora based communities both online and offline. (Northeastern Monitor/ January 3/2026)
