At least 39 students were hospitalized today due to wasp attack in the classroom complex in Kilinochchi Maha Vidayalayam, police said. Over two dozens were affected when massive wasp nest on the ceiling was disturbed.
Two teachers including Deputy Principal were among those admitted to hospital for further treatment. Students were trying to remove the wasps with help of tree branches when the nest was disturbed.
Parents and school community alleged that Education authorities including school management failed to remove the nest despite it was informed in advance by two months ago urging to remove the nest in order to ensure safety of the students. (Northeastern Monitor/ February 5/2026)
