Local Press Clubs and civil society outfits in Vadamarachchi staged a protest in front of Point Pedro bust stand yesterday (February 21) demanding answers on the whereabouts Tamil journalist S. Ramachchandran who was made to disappear on February 15, 2007.
Marking the 19th anniversary of the enforced disappearance of the journalist, Vadamarachchi Press Club organized a protest along with local civil society organizations, clergy and local bodies that work for wartime accountability.
At least hundred persons took part in the protest along with local officials from Point Pedro and Valvettithirai local bodies and local politicians.
The missing journalist Subramaniyam Ramachchandran was also working as a part time teacher as at the time when he was forcibly made to disappear by security forces along then para military forces at a camp in Kalikai junction, Thunnalai. (Northeastern Monitor/ February 22/2026)
