A young Buddhist monk attached to Buddhist Vihara in Navatkuli, Jaffna was taken into custody for alleged abuse of minor girl on Saturday (March 28), police said.
According to police investigations, the girl whose family reside near Buddhist shrine went to collect water to the shrine and was subjected to abuse by monk who joined the temple recently.
Following a complaint lodged by mother of the child, Chavakachcheri police arrested the Buddhist monk on Saturday.
The suspect was remanded till April 2 by Chavakachcheri Magistrate Court after being produced on Sunday. (Northeastern Monitor/ Marc 30/2026)
